HISTORICAL CONTENT: With the signing of the Treaty of Paris, those loyal to the English King are forced to leave their homes in America. Many slaves move to Canada to avoid being returned to slavery. American soldiers return home, many of them to harsh poverty. The Shays Rebellion (explain) and other events make it clear that it's not enough the United States won the war. It needs a strong central government if it is to survive as a nation.
